Most other systems require 15 to 20 years to master. Many students who have taken Karate, Capoeira, Hapkido, Ju Jitsu, Kickboxing, Krav Maga, and Tae Kwon Do migrate to Wing Chun to develop close contact defenses. Wing Chun is simple and easy to learn. Martial arts are forms of combat, practiced for a variety of reasons, including self-defense, competition, physical health and fitness. Many also include mental and spiritual development. Where some martial arts are considered "traditional" and tied to an ethnic, cultural or religious background, others are more modern and developed either by a founder or by an association.

There are a number of martial arts, some of the most common being: Aikido, Bando, Capoeira, Hapkido, Jeet Kune Do, Ju Jitsu, Judo, Karate, Kickboxing, Krav Maga, Kung Fu, Muay Thai, Ninjutsu, Kempo, Tae Kwon Do, Tang Soo Do and Wing Chun.
